Procedure Overview

The goal of preprosthetic surgery is to contour any bone needed for patients who may need dentures, implants or any type of removable prosthetic.

Bone reshaping is very important

After a tooth has been extracted, bone contouring around the socket is completed to prevent any sharp areas and assist with healing.

With respect to implant rehabilitation, the reshaping of bone is done to provide a stable base for implant placement and to create enough room for the crown or prosthetic components.

Approximately 1/3 of patients may also have extra bone on the inside of the lower jaw bone near the tongue or on the roof of the mouth. These are known as tori. In most of us the extra bone or tori do not require removal. In some people however, the extra bone affects speech or is easily traumatized when eating.

In patients who have no teeth and are looking to have a denture, extra bone can affect the positioning of the denture as well.

At Blueridge OMS we take pride in providing the best care possible.Your safety, privacy and comfort are of the utmost importance.
